What is Kombu
“Let’s save Tamil genetic tools, let’s develop Tamil arts!” “Kombu Performing Arts and Research Center” is an organization started by Dr. Vijayakumar Muthusamy as a non-profit organization in the state of Virginia (Washington, DC) to educate and stage performing arts along with Tamil traditional instruments and performing arts to Tamils living in the United States and the growing generation with the spirit of Muthamil music. Today it is functioning well thanks to the efforts of many volunteer artists.
A few years ago when I visited a North American Murugan temple I enjoyed listening to two people playing nathaswaram and davil very well. I thought both of them were artistes brought from Tamil Nadu. But now whenever I go to many Tamil schools and Tamil Sangha programs I am amazed to see that they add many new artistes and grace the programs with various Tamil traditional instruments.
Vijayakumar was born and brought up in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. He holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from IIT, Chennai. He has worked in German and American universities in the field of physics and is currently living in the United States with his family for over thirty years…
